Bolton Family Day -- Memorial Day

In 2006 and 2007, the Bolton Community Education Foundation both sponsored and coordinated the activities for Bolton Family Day, held on Memorial Day at Bolton Center School. The Foundation's involvement with the event began in 2005, when the BCEF served as a sponsor for the event. But help is needed if the event will continue in 2008.

The free event features live entertainment, 25-cent hotdogs, ice cream, cotton candy, popcorn, hay rides, a dunking tank, kids castle bouncer, kids “human fly-trap,” a bungee run, face painting, tie-dyed t-shirts, games, displays by community groups, and much more.

The BCEF assumed the coordination at the request of the previous coordinating group of residents, and has received assistance and support from various community groups and key townspeople.

While it is a wonderful town event, Bolton Family Day is not the best fit with the Foundation’s mission to “enrich and enhance education opportunities for Bolton residents of all ages,” as the educational component is not the focus of the day.

As a result, members of the BCEF Board of Directors have decided not to coordinate the event in 2008. The Foundation is hoping another town group will agree to take over the planning.

The BCEF has maintained detailed notes on the planning needed for this event, to help facilitate the transition. The BCEF also maintains a bank account to help fund the event in future years. Therefore, any community group interested in taking over Family Day would just need to be involved in the planning and would not have to fund the event.

Please help keep this enjoyable tradition going! Any interested group is invited to contact BCEF Chair Beth Harney at 649-1331 or bharney176@comcast.net.

Here are photos from the 2007 event:

One again, a big crowd turned out for Bolton Family Day activities.
"The Convincer," sponsored by the CT State Police, simulates an accident at 5 mph and reinforces the importance of wearing a seat belt.
An Irish step dancing demonstration was provided by the Golden Harp Dancers and Deirdre Golden Davies.
C&M Farms once again sponsored the popular hay ride.
Jim & Brian Clark fascinated the crowd when they inflated their hot air balloon.
The dunk tank was especially popular on this hot day!
Kids participated in games that included tug of war and sack races.
Thanks to the brave men and women who have served our country!
