"Wednesdays in March" 2009
"Going Green II"

“Wednesdays in March” is a series of free and interesting talks. It offers a great way to learn something new while socializing with Bolton neighbors. Here are descriptions of the topics discussed in 2009, along with photos from each evening:

Wednesday, March 4: "365 Days on the Trail" -- Professor John Sheirer, author of "Loop Year: 365 Days on the Trail," discussed his hikes of the same two-mile trail every day for a year. The Bolton Community Education Foundation presented this program jointly with the Bolton Land Trust.

Wednesday, March 11: "Green" Means Tick Season -- Dr. Kirby Stafford III, chief entomologist with the Connecticut Department of Entomology, discussed tick-borne diseases and shared some easy and low-cost ways to landscape property to help keep ticks away.

Wednesday, March 18: Calling All "Green" Thumbs -- Bolton resident Leslie Alexander, state coordinator of the UConn Master Gardener Program, spoke on "Understanding the Basics of Tree and Shrub Pruning" -- just in time for the spring growing season!

Wednesday, March 25: "Green" Energy -- Bolton resident Steve Wierzbicki, president of Nutmeg Mechanical Services, discussed the facts and benefits of geothermal heating and cooling systems and solar thermal water heaters.
