"Wednesdays in March" 2010
"Learning About China"
“Wednesdays in March” is a series of free and interesting talks. It offers a great way to learn
something new while socializing with Bolton neighbors. Here are
descriptions of the topics discussed in 2010, along with photos from each
evening:
|
Wednesday, March 3: "The
Bolton-China Connection" --
Dan Gregg from the
Connecticut State Department of Education explained the interesting
history of Connecticut’s relationship with China -- beginning with the
first Chinese graduation from Yale University in 1854 -- and today’s
“sister school” partnerships. Bolton is one of only 20 towns with such
school partnerships, although more are being planned. |

Wednesday, March 17:
"Chinese Cooking Class" --
Participants
had fun learning how to prepare poached "jiaozi" (dumplings) and
dipping sauce. The class was led by Judy Tancredi, who has
traveled and worked in China. |
|
Wednesday, March 31: "Acupuncture
and Traditional Chinese Medicine" --
Matt Maneggia,
a licensed acupuncturist with West Hartford Acupuncture LLC, discussed
the basic theories, methods, and uses of the world's most widely
practiced system of traditional medicine. He brought herbs and other
exotic “tools of the trade” to share with audience members, pictured on
the table next to him. |
