Welcome

Our most recent programs:
"Wednesdays in March"!

Hundreds of Bolton residents "went green” this March! The Bolton Community Education Foundation presented “Wednesdays in March,” a series of free and interesting talks on a variety of topics related to “green.” The informal talks were be held evenings at the Bolton Center School Library during the four Wednesdays in the month of March 2008. It was a great way to learn something new while socializing with Bolton neighbors. The topics were:

  • March 5 – Green lawns. Attendees learned how to get a healthier, greener and safer lawn using products that maintain soil health, eliminate synthetic pesticide and synthetic fertilizer use, and help protect the purity of water going into wells.

  • March 12 – Connecting Bolton’s “green” areas. This forum, presented jointly with the Bolton Land Trust, focused on how to make Bolton more walkable, using examples in the Town Center and Bolton Notch.

  • March 19 – Green building and renovation. This program focused on how to choose environmentally friendly home products such as countertops, flooring and paint, as well as the benefits of adding solar panels to your home.

  • March 26 – Protecting your green money. This program provided information about the risks of gambling at local casinos or online, including what warning signs to look for and how to talk with family members about games of chance and making bets.

Our most recent grant:
$1,000 to Support a "Sister" School in China

We're proud to announce that the Bolton Community Education Foundation has awarded a grant of $1,000 to support Bolton High School’s efforts to establish a “sister” school in China. The Foundation’s grant will help fund a trip in April 2008 by BHS Principal Paul K. Smith to travel to the Shandong Province of China for two weeks in April 2008.

The Connecticut Principals’ Center of the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) and the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) have collaborated on a Connecticut-Shandong Province (China) Principal Shadowing Project (PSP) as part of the Connecticut-Shandong Sister School Initiative.

The goal of the project is to build partnerships between school administrators, promote mutual intercultural understanding, and create opportunities for professional development. The majority of the project’s funding is provided by a private grant, but participating principals must pay for part of the cost of their trip overseas. Click here to read more.
